Captain Walter R. Peck, Jr., nephew to Dr. Donald R. Peck local eye specialist, was killed 'last Saturday afternoon when his training plane crashed one mile south of Columbus, Ohio. The other flier in the plane, Lieut. Donald M. Joy of Tacoma, Washington, was also killed. Both fliers served with B-17 wings with the Eighth Air Force in England. Military services were held yesterday for Captain Peck. He was the son of Major General and Mrs. Walter R. Peck of Seattle, Washington. The flier was killed when his plane dived into a cornfield. He is a veteran of thirty B-17 missions in the European theater during, which he was decorated five times. When the tragedy occurred he was serving as an instructor at Lockbourn. His widow resides in Sioux City, Iowa. He is the father of a four-months-old daughter.
