--------
PANDORA, March 3. Pandora citizens were shocked today to learn of the death of James Burkhart, 22, at McKittrick hospital, Kenton, a few days before he was to be released following a motorcycle accident, last Oct. 5.
Coroner Kenneth W. Preston, of Hardin county, said Burkhart slashed his throat with a pocketknife and razor blade sometime between 3 and 4:15 o'clock Wednesday morning at the hospital.
The nurse reported him well at 3 o'clock and at 5:15 o'clock found him dead.
It was the opinion of the coroner that Burkhart chose suicide when he feared that his right leg would always remain stiff as result of the accident. Both of his legs were seriously injured in the accident. He was reported as in good spirits on Tuesday.
The motorcycle of young Burkhart crashed into the side of an automobile at a Kenton intersection Oct. 4 of last year. Since then he has been at the hospital.
Born April 14, 1914, in Pandora, he was the son of Bruce B. and Augusta Preston Burkhart. He graduated from Pandora high school in 1932.
Brothers and sisters living are as follows: Charles, of Findley; Mrs. Virginia Richmond, of Findley; Rolland, Robert, and Juanita, all at home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the home and at 2 o'clock from Grace Mennonite Church with Rev. C.O. Good, pastor of the M.E. Church officiating. Rev. Good will be assisted by Rev. Paul Whitmer, pastor of Grace Church.
Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in charge of Lehman funeral home.
